Hiking – South Moat Mountain

South Moat Mountain is great short hike to take in the afternoon to catch the sunset over Mount Chocorua.

Moderate in it difficulties, it is one of the shorter hikes in the area that provide wide open vistas, taking in all of the surounding towns, and topping them off with the Presidential Range, the Green Hills and Mount Chocorua. Some of the trail finding gets a bit spotty along the open slabs 3/4 of the way up but just look for yellow blazes on the slabs and well worn trails leading back in to the trees. It’s not uncommon to see people heading up or down during any season. I’ve even seen people squeezing in a few ski turns on the upper slopes on a really good snow year.
